Espen Sommer Eide (NO) is a musician and artist from Tromsø. As Alog (with Dag-Are Haugan) and Phonophani he has been among the most prominent representatives of experimental electronic music from Norway. He has also produced a series of site-specific pieces and artworks. He had a solo exhibition, Dead Language Poetry, at Bergen. Espen Sommer Eide has also been involved in a series of art and archival projects associated with topics relating to the Barents and Arctic regions in Northern Norway. www.sommer.alog.net

What does it mean to be present in a place, to sit still, listening to faraway cries of dogs and shouts of children carried by the wind. Your memories are not invited, yet still they come. The meeting point is the Nikel Ski Hut at 19.00. The hike will last approximately 3 hrs. Please bring good shoes.

In Vertical Studies: Acoustic Shadows and Boundary Reflections, a collaborative work with Espen Sommer Eide, Eide and Lidén wish to invite the participants on a journey to a 46 meter high former water tower in Sint Jansklooster.

Friday 10 June begins with a lecture by Timothy Morton, who will explain ‘dark ecology’. After this we cross the border to Russia and travel to Nikel. In the evening we will experience Signe Lidén & Espen Sommer Eide’s new soundwalk Altitude & History, set in the hills above Nikel. Jana Winderen’s Pasvikdalen is on show until Sunday.

Nikel and Zapolyarny are the locations for the programme on Saturday 11 October, which include a visit to the new site-specific work by the Norwegian artist Signe Lidén. The symposium focuses on sound art and ‘dark acoustics’ and includes artist presentations by amongst others Espen Sommer Eide, Raviv Ganchrow, and Jana Winderen. The second ‘Secret Chamber’ concert has live performances by amongst others Love Cult from Petrozavodsk, and ambient hip-hop all the way from Komi by Mnogoznaal and TILMIL.
