Spring Bloom in the Marginal Ice Zone at SALT
During spring 2017 Jana Winderen's installation Spring Bloom in the Marginal Ice Zone will be presented at SALT, a nomadic art project currently situated on Oslo’s shoreline, overlooking the city’s famous Opera House. The work is presented in the Árdna building – named after a Sámi concept for a hidden and secret treasure – offering an intimate, contemplative setting behind its glass-façade facing the corporate and signature architecture of ‘new Oslo’. The programme features three sound pieces that are engaging with Arctic ecologies, revealing natural phenomena, ice, underwater creatures, myths and living memories. Visitors will hear Jana Winderen’s aural work for the Arctic Pyramid and gain insight into the sound frequencies that ocean species use for orientation, hunting and communication, which are threatened by humanity’s intensified use of ocean areas. More information about the programme can be found here.
