Espen Sommer Eide, Signe Lidén, BJ Nilsen, Jana Winderen The use of field recordings in compositions and environmental sounds in art and has come a long way since the Canadian composer Murray Schafer coined the term ‘acoustic ecology’. The panel ‘Dark Acoustics’ – where dark signifies ‘unknown’ – looks at the different ways in which artists and composers approach sound and space to open up the experience of a place. Through using sound they make present a reality that otherwise escapes our attention, or our sense of time. They uncover hidden aspects of our world, that are beyond or below the bandwidth of the human senses.
Signe Lidén (NO) is an artist based in Bergen. Her installations and performances examine man-made landscapes and their resonance. She is interested in how places and their histories resonate: in memory, through narratives and various materials, and as ideological manifestations and political territories.
