HC Gilje - The Crossing
The Crossing is a light-motion installation by HC Gilje outside Zapolyarny (RU). It explores and re-activates an abandoned construction site using light and motion: ephemeral light meets physical structures. The installation shows Gilje’s interest in motion itself, how it passes through spaces, objects, bodies and landscapes. The work is partly inspired by a quote from the essay Motor Geometry by the Dutch architect Lars Spuybroek: ‘We no longer look at objects, whether static or moving, but at movement as it passes through the object.’ The Crossing is a commission for the second Dark Ecology Journey (2015). Thanks to the Childrens' Art School in Nikel for providing work space.
